Today’s smaller designs can present some big challenges for the design engineer, particularly the tight tolerances required for microminiature sealing applications.

O-rings come in many styles and shapes. The material required depends on temperature, pressure, chemical, and other environmental factors. When handling polar substances, ozone or steam, an EPDM O-rings would constitute the best fit. However, the use of Viton O-rings is advised when dealing with density levels over 1,800kg/m³, as other synthetic rubber O-rings are not able to withstand such force.
